Moms as Grandmothers and Beyond - click here for further information
The picture of a grandmother is very different from previous generations. Today, she may be very active, highly involved in a career or voluntary activities, yet the grandmother role comes with tension and conflict. Parenting today is very different than how kids were previously raised and consequently a potential source of conflict with daughters or daughters-in-law. Many adult children are moving back home with their children and grandmothers struggle with their new roles. Because of tough economic times or circumstances beyond their control grandmothers are often the primary child care provider and/or are raising their grandchildren. Grandmothers are encouraged to be their authentic selves, relieve tension and create the balance they desire in their grand-mothering years.
